DEFENSE, TEAM WORK, CONDITIONING,

EARLY SEASON WORK OUT

“STAR”

We put all our infielders in their positions and start with the catcher behind the plate with a ball.

The catcher throws a ground ball to the SS. The catcher then sprints to his left to the SS position and

becomes the SS.

The SS fields the ball and throws a grounder to the 1st baseman. The SS then sprints to his left and

becomes the 1st baseman.

The 1st baseman catches the ball and throws a grounder to the 3rd baseman. After the throw he

sprints to his left and becomes the 3rd baseman.

The 3rd baseman catches the ball and throws to the 2nd baseman. He then sprints to his left and

becomes the 2nd baseman.

The 2nd baseman catches the ball and throws a grounder to the catcher. He then sprints to his left

and becomes the catcher.

The routine continues for as long as you want it to last.

You can mix in other variations and throws as well.

This drill is great in the early season for conditioning and movement. Fielding ground balls indoors

or outside. It is a good way to start practice or to end practice. You can use shorter distances or

longer distances if you have 3 players at each position. This way players get a breather between

grounders.
