A Team

Brownsburg High School, Indiana

Playing in the most challenging conference in the state and being undefeated has earned the Brownsburg Bulldogs some national recognition. They are ranked anywhere from sixteen in the USA Today poll to number three in the Easton model, not to mention number one in Indiana's 4A poll.

Coach O'Neil is quoted as saying, Our conference is the toughest baseball conference in the state, the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, and we've had to come to play nightly. And play nightly they did, winning the conference with a 16-0 record, which is the first time since the conference was formed any team has gone undefeated.

With the help of senior right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn, the Bulldogs have battled well-built teams and pulled out victories. Lynn, recently named Gatorade Player of the Year, is 10-0. In 62 innings pitched he has only allowed 11 runs, 7 of which were earned, giving him an ERA of 0.79. Also under his belt are his 119 strikeouts with only 19 walks and 3 no-hitters.

Not only is Lynn a dominant pitcher, he gets it done at the plate as well. He leads the team with 11 home runs, 37 RBIs and is hitting .403.

Other players have contributed greatly to the success of the Bulldogs. Sophomore Drew Storen, right-handed pitcher, is 6-0 with a 2.55 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 44 innings. Then there is senior right-handed pitcher Matt Snyder, 4-0 with two saves and an ERA of 1.90. While freshman Jeff King is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Its safe to say the Brownsburg Bulldog's pitching staff is a force to be reckoned with.

However, pitching isn't the only aspect of the Bulldog's game that overwhelms opponents. The team's batting average is .363 with 47 doubles, 7 triples, and 38 home runs. Leading the team with a batting average of .467 is junior Gary King. Supporting him are senior second baseman Cory Dragstrem hitting .422, senior catcher Austin Nickol .400, and sophomore T.J. Baumet hitting .400 as well.

The Brownsburg Bulldogs are the complete team. They love baseball and are well on their way to a championship.

As a footnote, Brownsburg finished their season with a 35-0 record and a State Championship under their belt. This is something that has eluded them for the last two years. Congratulations to Coach O'Neil and the Buldogs on an outstanding season. They fiished the BCA/Baseball America National poll ranked 3rd in the nation.
